Man Goes Berserk, Bites Mans Ear

A hawker, Gaone Lefika told The Monitor that the man who was wearing grey jeans and a white T-shirt came from the direction of Bontleng. He said the man looked normal.

“He walked past us here by the entrance (to the ministry building). Because he looked normal, everyone just continued with their business. Minutes later, we saw him being chased from the offices. We thought that maybe he was just being a nuisance. We did not think that the worst was to come,” he said.

Lefika said that as the security offices chased the man out of the building, he was singing and chanting. “I heard from the security officers that he had forcefully eaten an officer’s food without her consent. As they chased him out of the building, he was busy singing what seemed like a Mafikizolo song. He seemed rather calm and could not care less,” Lefika said.

After being thrown out of the building, the man allegedly bit the ear of an Asian man. “The next thing, we saw him on the back of the Indian guy. Seconds later we hear screams from the Indian man,” he said.

Another onlooker, Bennie Kgopise told The Monitor that he saw the Asian man bleeding and screaming while his assailant’s mouth was covered with blood.

He said the Asian ran away after the assault while the man who was now barefoot lay on the road causing a traffic snarl-up. He threw himself onto an on coming car and broke the windscreen.

“As the shocked driver, who may have thought she hit a pedestrian got out of her car, the man ran into another car,” said Kgopise. By the time he was apprehended, Kgopise said part of the Asian’s ear was still stuck on the man’s t-shirt.
