Debswana turns 45

Bonyongo paid tribute to the men and women who work around the clock and throughout the year mining diamonds that have supported Botswana since their discovery in the late 1950s.

Debswana celebrated its anniversary at all its centres throughout the country. Speaking in Gaborone, Bonyongo used the occasion to thank secondary school students who took part in the Debswana Essay Competition, which focused on their thoughts about the diamond giant.

“Our gratitude goes to the teachers and head teachers for coordinating the competition at school level and more importantly I thank the students and congratulate them,” he said.

Galaletsang Ketshogile of Selebi Phikwe Senior Secondary scooped first prize, followed by students from Letlhakane Senior and Moeding College. Selebi Phikwe Senior Secondary was also awarded a prize for being the Overall Winning School.
