BCW is currently involved in a bitter court battle with Sweet Bait and Peasant Worthy, the company that was awarded a three-year contract to run the competition.

BCW terminated the contract due to their dissatisfaction with the company’s failure to honor some of its obligations.

In a statement relating to the current court battle, the BCW wrote that, “it must be recalled that for the past two years, BCW has had run-ins with the events management companies tasked with the running of the competition, who could not honour their obligations to give prizes to winners as agreed in the contract”.

Sweet Bait and Peasant Worthy’s contract was supposed to run until 2015 but they withdrawn after organising the first show in 2013.

BCW insists that they acted in the best interest of the show, after Sweet Bait failed to give the 2013 winner Rosemary Keofitlhetse and her princesses their prizes.

It is not yet clear if another first princess will be sent to the Miss World competition on December 14 in London.

This is not the first time that Miss Botswana competition has been cancelled.

In 2012 the competition could not be held after another court battle ensued between BCW and two events management companies, Leap Frog and 63Entertainment, which at the time were contracted to run the beauty pageant.  The cancellation led to BCW choosing Miss Botswana 2011 first princess Tapiwa Anna-Marie Preston to reign as queen and represent Botswana at the Miss World 2012.

The statement says BCW has taken a deliberate decision to put this year’s competition on hold to fully deal with controversies emanating from the past pageants.
