Makosha develops cold feet

Makosha who became an MP in 2009 lost the BDP primary elections last year against Polson Majaga. He did not take the loss lightly and never denied reports that he was talking to the opposition Botswana National Front (BNF) to defect. He even told a local publication and radio station that he intends to leave the BDP.

He said people in his constituency advised him to stand as an independent candidate. But this week, Makosha was singing a different tune. The controversial legislator said he remains loyal to the BDP and has never engaged in talks with the opposition to defect.

“I have never been engaged in talks with the opposition.  You can ask them,” said Makosha. He said there is no way he can join the opposition because they have their own problems.

Contrary to reports, Makosha also claims that he supports Majaga, the man who beat him at the BDP primaries.  He said at times, he delegates Majaga to attend meetings on his behalf. However, it has been reported that the two do not see eye-to-eye. Reports say the two men were only reconciled last week when President Ian Khama addressed a Kgotla meeting in the constituency.  It is said the acting Minister of Education and Skills Development, Mokgweetsi Masisi once summoned them and ordered them to bury the hatchet.

Makosha won the BDP primary elections for the first time in 2008 to end the reign of Oliphant Mfa as area MP.
