BOMAID to continue sponsoring bowls

The week-long tournament ended on Saturday. The championship was the fourth under BOMAID sponsorship. The company forked out P20,000 for the 2014 edition.

In the women’s singles, Pauline Lekone of Gaborone Club defeated Binkie Gaborutwe of Phikwe Club by 21-9 shots. Lekone is a two-time Botswana Masters Ladies singles champion. Timothy Morton of Gaborone defended the male singles title after beating Andre van der Walt of Francistown 21-13.

The Jwaneng duo of Tirelo Buckley and Juliet Mokoko beat Binkie Gaborutwe and Nelly Senna of Phikwe by 18-9 shots to take women’s pairs title.  Benish Desai and George Naik of Francistown hammered Ray Mascarenhas and Mmoloki Ookeditse from Orapa 17-10 to win the men’s pairs category.

In the women’s fours, Francistown A team of Charmaine Hassen, Obopile Mosimanyana, Shenila Mahiomed, Debbie Johnson and Molatedi Douma emerged victorious over another Francistown side of Elandri Collingto, Tillie van der Walt, Violet Wheatley and Mymoona Armstrong.

Phikwe club did not leave empty handed as the men’s fours team of Otlabona Motladiile, Diane Senna, Gaborutwe and Khumo Kebalatetse narrowly beat Desai, Dave De’Ath, Tony Da’ Rocha and Naik of Francistown by 19-18 in a sudden death tie- breaker.

The nail biting men’s final was tied at 18 shots each on the last end and was decided by sudden death with Phikwe bowlers squeezing in a shot at the very last throw of the tournament.

Binkie was selected as the women’s players player of the tournament and took home the Lebo Mascarenhas trophy after reaching both the singles and pairs final.

The men’s players’ player of the tournament was Desai who walked home with the Ray Mascarenhas trophy.

The Francistown Club dethroned the 16-time Rhodes trophy champions, Gaborone after accumulating 37 points. Gaborone got 35 points to finish second while Phikwe was third with 30 points followed by Jwaneng and Orapa in fourth and fifth respectively with 28 and 26 points each.
