Man dragged to court for stealing at work

A fellow employee caught Nkwane red-handed with the diesel and called Old Naledi police who apprehended the 31-year-old.

The 25-litre container was presented to Court deputy president, Kenneth Thari, as evidence.

In his defence, Nkwane told the court that he stole the diesel so that he could sell it and raise money for transport, as he did not have bus fare.

He said working in Gaborone was expensive and his salary always ran out before the end of the month.

Nkwane pleaded for forgiveness from his employers saying he should rather have asked for bus fare, than attempt to steal the diesel.

Sentencing Nkwane, Thari said he could have asked for a salary advance or other form of assistance, instead of resorting to theft. The deputy president ordered that the diesel be returned to the company.
