BCA postpones national cricket tournament

Botswana Cricket Association (BCA) fixtures and publicity secretary, Sumod Damodar, has told Mmegi Sport that they are still negotiating with sponsors and they decided to push the tournament to next month because playing 50 over games in June is not wise because the month has shorter days.

“We have not yet finalised with the sponsors and we are trying to get a sponsor for all the teams from both regions,” he explained.

He stated that they want to be fully prepared when the tournament starts. “We decided to utilise this winter season to prepare for the tournament so that when it starts, everything will be in order.”

He explained that 50 over matches take the whole day, hence it is not wise to play them in June. He said it would be impossible to complete a 50 over match in June before darkness sets in. Damodar said the tournament will he held at the end of July when the winter season will be coming to an end.

Meanwhile, Samsung are the new sponsors of the Under-19 team.
