BOCCIM crowns top office managers

The Competition formed part of the annual Office Managers’ Convention held in April, which aims to equip delegates with skills pertinent to their productivity. The convention is designed to help delegates find diverse ways of addressing day-to-day challenges and thus move from solely being business support role-players to business partners.

On Friday, BOCCIM’s Human Resources and Enterprise Development Programmes Officer, Eileen van der Est, said of the 100 delegates who attended the convention, 15 had participated in this competition. Mophalane emerged victorious in the top spot, followed by Thato Kabelo and Tiny Hambira. Mophalane and Hambira both work at the University of Botswana (UB) while Kabelo works at the Brand Botswana. “We only had 15 participants in the competition who underwent a testing process using modern communication methods, office equipment and cutting edge technologies that included computer skills testing as well as a one-on-one interview,” van der Est said, explaining how the winners were eventually chosen.

Mophalane, who is a personal assistant in the Centre for Specialisation in Public Administration and Management walked away with a floating trophy, first prize trophy, Botswana National Productivity Centre (BNPC) productivity flagship short programme and a voucher for two nights accommodation courtesy of Grand Palm.

Kabelo won herself a course at Imperial School of Business and Science and a meal voucher sponsored by Grand Palm, while Hambira, who is a personal secretary, won two BOCCIM short courses on Customer Service and Supervisory Skills and a meal voucher sponsored by Grand Palm. University of Botswana Deputy Vice Chancellor (Finance and Administration), Dawid Katzke hailed BOCCIM for furthering office managers’ performances through the convention and the competition.

“I intend to extend my legacy of appreciation and for the last two days I have been working hard on a business plan for a conference centre that will be finished in November,” he revealed.

“This Centre will be used for staff training and will benefit Batswana as well.”
