FNBB launches deposit-taking ATMs

“This ATM Advance is convenient, simple and safe. It saves time of waiting in the long queues inside the bank to make a deposit and interestingly one can do the deposit anytime, as it’s a 24-hour service. Currently the ADMs use notes only with a daily deposit limit of P40,000,” said the national head of ATMs Abo Kgwarae.

He said funds are available immediately after the transaction has been made with no extra cost. He assured clients that the ATM Advance is user-friendly, secure as each transaction has a unique, traceable number for complete peace of mind and one receives a proof of transaction slip. More conveniently this machine does not require a card if one has an account with FNB.

The machine can also process other services that are offered by the original machine which includes, cash withdrawals, card activation, balance enquiry, mini statement, bill payments as well as transfers. The difference is the addition of a unique keyboard, which occupies a much bigger space.

“We continue to focus on customer education and migration to electronics channels, in line with the Bank’s ‘Bricks to Clicks’ strategy. We see this as a critical strategy for our customers as it affords them access, convenience and efficiencies in banking,” he added.

Kgwarae added that for this financial year they have planned to place 10 devices in strategic places. Five have already been deployed and the remainder will be done by the end of December.

“Currently five have been placed at First Place Branch at CBD, Airport Junction branch, Kgale Branch, Easy Plan Branch and Industrial branch. These ADMs are placed in strategic places which can be attended to immediately for any emergencies,” he said. According to the director for retail banking, Martin Knollys, for the next six to 12 months, helpers have been placed at ADMs during office hours to educate customers on how to utilise these machines.

In the second phase, which is expected to commence in the next financial year, Kgwarae said they intend placing 10 more ADMs in places like Francistown and Maun.

The introduction of coins and cheques will be rolled out in this phase as well. Out of eight countries that FNB is operating, FNBB is the second to place these machines after South Africa.

On her part, the bank’s director of marketing and communications, Bomolemo Selaledi said that the deployment of the ATM advance was a defining moment in the local banking industry, a service that FNBB is proud to offer their customers.
