Pheto, UDC talks collapse

After the collapse of negotiations, Pheto maintained that he is still keen to defend his seat as an independent candidate. “We did not agree because I do not want a situation where any person has to pave way for me. At the end, it brings instability to the party in the area,” Pheto said.

Meanwhile the UDC spokesperson Moeti Mohwasa has said he is not aware that talks with Pheto have collapsed.

The MP resigned from the BDP before President Ian Khama could suspend him for 60 days “for serious misconduct and subversive activities involving distribution and dissemination of materials indicating that he had launched a political campaign”.

Pheto will be competing against Phagenyana Phage of the Botswana Congress Party (BCP), Vincent Seretse of the BDP and Godisang Silingo-Bwere of the UDC in the general elections.
