Katse & Co plan suing BDP

Mmegi has leant that Katse and the disqualified council candidates - Tidimalo Matlhotse, Stella Matlapeng and Amantle Matlapeng are in the process of serving the BDP with court papers.

In a brief interview yesterday Katse said they are still considering some options on the matter. “Our intentions will be known soon. What I can simply say is that we do not agree with what central committee had said,” Katse said.  However, one of the disqualified candidates told Mmegi in confidence that apart from seeking reinstatement, they want their name to be cleared or else they are suing for defamation. “We will be serving the BDP sometime this week, so far we had not signed recommendations as outlined by the party. Nothing obliges us to do so,” said the source.

The party leadership took a decision early this month to have the losing candidate in the Tlokweng constituency, the assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Olebile Gaborone, represent the party in the October elections.

Gaborone will defend his incumbency against Same Bathobakae of the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) and Reverend Zachariah Phaladi of the Botswana Congress Party (BCP).

When endorsing Gaborone, the BDP central committee informed the recalled candidates not to engage in conduct that may undermine party unity in Tlokweng constituency. They were also instructed to support Gaborone and the new council candidates.

They were also asked to further indicate their acceptance and waiver in writing of any rights they may have to challenge the decisions of the central committee in question, including but not limited to any litigation as may be contemplated by them before any courts of law.
