Maya Roze Dialogues

Maitseo please!

Yes, Oneal – Botswana tends to be boring. The error happened when the person receiving that statement made it seem like he said: ‘Botswana is boring – so don’t come there!’ As if we are hosting the World Cup or something. We need to behave as fans and never forget that personalities includes a person, human being – you know- someone’s whose upbringing you had no touch in, didn’t help pay their school fees or find them that job – make babies with them or help them meet their partners. So since when do they owe fans their lives – when a fan says jump – Oneal, Vee or Beyonce must jump. Ebile forget Beyonce, DJ Sid or Shnati-lo or someone from Botswana.

A few months ago I blogged about the turbulent relationship that fans have with the people they are following, but the line needs to be drawn somewhere you know!  What’s with the bitterness in the Motswana’s eyes kante? It was Vee’s wedding day for goodness sake – why did people expect to be invited to his special private day? I understand that they contribute to his celebrity status but they have nothing to do with the personal relationship and how he maintains them, considering that he was with the woman before he blew up. It is not like he picked a fan or a fellow public personality, and hence the public owns them.

Hase mo States- and the gossipmongers need to take a chill pill. I mean if you think about it. Botswana tends to be boring for numerous reasons that we murmur about at bars, restaurants, our homes and even street corners, walking out of a government office or telling your guests from outside the country.

Could this sudden undivided potent patriotism come with the excitement ya Gaborone 2014 Youth games, when the cynics failed to discourage the rest and O’neal happened to say that true but blunt statement just in time – after the games ended.

No one insulted Samantha Mogwe or Mandisa Mabuthoe about not making their weddings a public affair, so why Vee – in the words of BK Proctor: Poppo ke poppo! No jalus!

Where is the spirit of peace and humanity, what could have been wrong with disagreeing with O’neal politely?!? O’neal used to say whatever he wanted on his radio show and no one sent a firing squad out or he was not put to the guillotine on social media – so why now? Or expressing the wish to attend Vee’s wedding, and the disappointment, lightly – I mean let us be real – the next song Vee releases, the same people that were criticizing his decision and his right to keep his special day private are going to blasting it from their stereos. The next club O’neal appears at with his lady will be packed with the same people that were giving him crap on social networks. Are we that bored that anything is deemed as controversial – even if it is said my millions of people on the daily?

The regular Motswana who is fuelling this ignorance still drops his jaw when Vee passes by with his Range Rover, and you praise him and talk about the last time you were at his show – while your fellow combi passengers nod, agree and debate about the poor guy’s graceful success. Let us get things right here: faith is in control, hard-work pays and groupies will always be groupies.

So for clarification, being a fan does not give  you the right to control every move the celebrity makes, it is not okay that you feel entitled because you don’t see Vee complaining about how he doesn’t have enough fans. He appreciates every fan, for their role, which is being a fan. That is it. Nothing more.

You as the fan took a personal decision to like, follow and watch everything this personality does – there was no gun pistol by your temple – so what is the real problem. I know – we are bored and  re rata dilo tsa batho!

Let us take it easy and play our roles accordingly – stop with the antagonizing and behave as if you were raised right. Maitseo please!
