Not for sale......GU deny speculations linking the duo out of the club

At a time when he was still trying to establish himself as one of the key members of GU squad, Moeng sustained an injury that kept him on the sidelines for more than a season. With a new deal, he looks set to be one of coach, Rahman Gumbo’s soldiers next season.

The GU attacking midfield role is already packed with Jackie Mothatego and Ntesang Simanyana fighting for the position. Through their Facebook page, GU have said they have signed Zimbabwean striker, Tendai Nyamandzawo from TAFIC.

His arrival follows the release of other Zimbabwean players, Thulani Moyo, George Mubita and Gerald Semukufe whose contracts have been terminated. The club is waiting for Simanyana’s international clearance after acquiring his signature from South Africa’s Polokwane City where he failed to command a place in the starting line up. The Reds are also planning to recruit a foreign striker before the transfer window closes.

GU have shot down speculation surrounding the future of Mothatego and striker, Tebogo Sembowa.

Recently, the two players have been linked with a move away from the club, with city rivals, Township Rollers named as a possible destination.  However GU have denied the reports and pointed out that the two players are still contracted to the club.

“We have no intention of selling them to any local team anytime soon. In fact, we are about to open negotiations with the two players as their contracts are left with one year,” the club said through its Facebook page.

GU have confirmed the appointment of Rahman Gumbo as the head coach. Gumbo arrived at GU towards the end of last season as a technical advisor.

At the time, David Bright was head coach. Following the suspension and subsequent dismissal of Bright, his assistant, George Mogopodi took the reins on an interim basis.

With Gumbo now confirmed as the new head coach, Mogopodi returns to his job as an assistant.

GU started their pre-season training on Tuesday without Edwin Olerile who has been invited for trials at South African Premier Soccer League side, Chippa United.

The club is still waiting for communication from Bloemfontein Celtics who had shown interest in Mothatego. GU will hold its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on July 12 at the University of Botswana (UB).
