Alliance Française cultural coordinator, Hanna Rochetaing, said this year’s show would feature American country and bluegrass band Venture Moody.

Venture Moody Band, which comprises of Rebecca Venture, Carlton Moody and Jackson Moody, was in Botswana last year.

During their short visit, the band met with a number of local artists including Kast and Women of Jazz, giving the locals a taste of their music at a Bull n Bush performance.

Alliance Française of Gaborone, coordinates Fete de la Musique with the support of local artists and financial partners, Orange and the European Union.  Other sponsors include Brave Heart, Inflates, Veolia Water, Duma fm, and Echo Newspaper.

Alliance Française, will once again, organise flashmob in malls geared towards promoting the main event.

The yearly event gives music lovers a chance to see their favourite musicians perform for free.

Those interested in attending the show however are required to pick-up access flyers from Alliance Française offices and Orange shops around Gaborone.

Fete-de-la Musique was initiated by the then French Minister of Culture, Jack Lang, in 1982.

The idea was to create a music festival to enable musicians to perform freely and give the audience the opportunity to discover different kinds of music.

Fete de la Musique is now celebrated in 110 countries, and brings together professional and amateur musicians to showcase their talent to a large audience.

“Last year, more than 4,000 people attended the concert to witness performances showcased by around 250 artists (musicians and dancers) including the famous Shanti Lo, the Brother Moves On, who stopped in our town during their international tour, the unique Mophato Dance Theatre and many other talented artists who mesmerised the audience.  We got an overwhelming feedback for that show,” a statement from Alliance Française explained.
