Morocco withdraw from Gaborone rugby tourney

 

Botswana Rugby Union (BRU) president, Elijah Jones said Impala Rustenburg from South Africa will replace Morocco. Botswana is hosting the Confederation of African Rugby (CAR) tournament for the second year running. 

Besides, Botswana, the other countries in the competition are Zambia, Mauritius, Swaziland and Nigeria. Impala Rustenburg come in as guests and their points which not count towards promotion.

Jones explained that the tournament is for countries in Group 1C and the winner will be promoted to Group 1B next year. 

“Preparations for the tournament are on-going but we have problems with finances. We are appealing to potential sponsors to assist us with funds to enable us to host a successful tournament,” he said.

He said the national team (Vultures) has been hard at training ahead of the competition.

 

Fixtures:

Sunday 15th June 2014Impala Rustenburg will take on Mauritius at 12: 30 hours while Botswana play Swaziland at 14:30 hours. The last match of the day will be between Nigeria against Zambia at 16:30 hours.

 

Wednesday 18th June 2014Nigeria will face off against Swaziland at 12:30 hours followed by a game between Zambia and Mauritius at 14:30 hours. The last match of the day will be between Botswana and Impala Rustenburg at 16:30 hours.

 

Saturday 21st June 2014Mauritius will lock horns against Swaziland at 12: 30 hours. Impala Rustenburg will play Nigeria at 14:30 hours while Botswana takes on Zambia 16:30 hours.
