He said the P583 million allocated for the programme in the last financial year could have been used to establish industries from which 31,000 permanent jobs could have been created. He said the P610 million set aside for the programme this financial year is enough to create 35,000 permanent jobs. He stated that the P178 million government allocated to the revived Tirelo Sechaba programme is enough to create 7,000 permanent jobs.   “The only alternative that the ruling party has is to come up with Ipelegeng while UDC looks at creating permanent jobs for the 67,500 people engaged in Ipelegeng. The problem is not money but poor planning,” Mmolotsi asserted. He warned people in Selebi-Phikwe that they will relocate to their villages because the town would be non-existent in the next 10 years if they do not change the government.

He wondered why the electorate continues to vote for people who have failed to build proper infrastructure like hospitals and good sewerage systems, let alone address unemployment, closure of companies and low production at BCL mine. “Time has come to vote UDC into power and we promise that we are going to change things,” he stated. UDC is a political partnership between BMD, Botswana National Front (BNF) and Botswana People’s Party (BPP).

Its secretary general, Gomolemo Motswaledi said at the launch that he has confidence that his team in the Selebi-Phikwe East constituency will restore the town’s dignity. He told the people that they did nothing wrong in electing cabinet minister, Nonofho Molefhi in the last general elections because they trusted him.  “He is not even wrong to have betrayed you. Do not fault him for deserting you and staying in Gaborone because that is how the ruling government system works. However, correcting that mistake is possible. Show him some love by denying him votes in the elections,” he said. Motswaledi stated that the UDC cabinet will not have a ministry of local government but will have executive mayors. He said local authorities would be given autonomy under the UDC. “It is disheartening that councillors do not have powers while all powers are vested in the Minister of Local Government. We do not want that,” he stressed. Motswaledi said they want a state president that will be a servant to the nation.

The launch that was held in Botshabelo on Saturday was graced by BMD regional chairman for Francistown Shadreck Nyeku, Goodhope/Mabule parliamentary candidate James Mathokgwane, Ndaba Gaolathe, Arafat Khan and Nehemiah Modubule. Gaolathe is BMD/UDC parliamentary candidate for  Gaborone-Bonnington South while Modubule is defending his Lobatse seat.
