He added that they intend to rent the facility to generate income. Mukokomani said it is by developing facilities that softball can also meet the Botswana National Sports Council (BNSC) strategy of hosting high profile events.
The re-opening coincided with the finals of the Vivo Top Four softball championships hosted at the venue.
Mukokomani said the refurbishment is was one of the projects that his committee promised to deliver.
The BSA president said the refurbishment was funded by BNSC and cost around P150,000. He said BNSC financed the project to support BSA’s long term plans.
Officiating at the ceremony, BNSC president, Solly Reiketseng described the refurbishment of the National Diamond as a milestone in the development of softball.
“Credit goes to the softball president, Mukokomani and your executive team for living to expectations and ensuring that this pitch is renovated.
You have left a legacy that many should emulate and try to surpass. The turf is obviously not enough,” he said. He stated that the facility needs more security, more sitting stands and lighting so that games cannot be limited to daytime only.
“I wish to implore you to put together a strategy to increase usage of this beautiful facility and generate even income from it as well as to increase participation in the game of softball,” he added.
