Respect embodies Zangwanas creativity

In this respect the Molepolole duo, Pheko Mabolai and Mogorisi Tsietsi Bashoma, complement each other.

Bashoma displays exquisite vocal ability while Mabolai’s instrumental skill provides some melodious tunes to give fans a mellow album to look forward to.

An explanation of this good understanding of each other might lie in the fact that the two men have played together for a long time.  Both were members of ‘90s kwasakwasa band called Slowly where Mabolai played the keyboard while Bashoma was the lead vocalist.

Mabolai has a long history with disco music.  He was co-producer for the now defunct Survivors along with Reuben Kekana.

Although the new album is disco, bringing some reggae tunes into the mix makes the record appealing to a larger audience.

Respect is Zangwana’s sixth album. Before joining up with Bashoma, Mabolai had released his debut Modimo Thusa.

The album Lefitlhile was born after the arrival of Bashoma and more such as Ledlozi, Mabaleng and Dineo followed later.

The new album kicks off with the high tempo Mma Thabo, which should have mapantsula tightening up their gomoras and preparing their dupas (Brent Wood pants) for their next night out.

But the track that should display vocal maturity and pure instrumental ability is Mapodisi. In the track the vocalist narrates his nasty encounter with men in uniform who he alleges beat him up because he was suspected of woman battery after a drinking spree.

What makes the track even more interesting is the overlap of tenors in the chorus.

The album has been released locally and in the United Kingdom where the group’s music is reported to be in demand as said by their agent, Tom Wardle.
