Ntuane dismisses opposition as dream peddlers

Ntuane, who was speaking at the launch of Gantsi North BDP parliamentary candidate Johnnie Swartz, said that the opposition does not have policies that have developed people’s lives.

He said that the opposition can only talk about developments but cannot reach their constituencies, adding that it is not possible for them to address Kgotla meetings because they do not have policies in place. Ntuane said the opposition does nothing but talk, condemn and criticise.

He told fellow BDP members that it is ironic for opposition parties to continue to condemn and criticise policies that have been brought by the BDP when they are the same people who benefit from them.

He cited the Citizen Entrepreneurial Development Agency (CEDA) and Young Farmers’ Fund as some of the policies, which have greatly improved Batswana’s lives. “If these policies were not helpful why would they sneak when they think nobody sees them to go and ask for financial assistance from some of institutions? Come July for the next session of Parliament, the names of those who enjoy CEDA benefits are going to be exposed to the whole nation,” Ntuane said.

He urged members of the BDP to vote for Swartz in the coming general elections.  He said that should they make a mistake of voting for any of the opposition parties, all the policies that BDP put in place would be a thing of the past.

He added that the BDP has created a middle-class whereby some people are able to buy their own houses, they can afford to buy cars and be able to put food on the table.  Not only that but the ruling party has made provisions for free education, said Ntuane and has given some people a chance to prolong life by giving free ARVs.

At public schools students are provided with food through the government feeding schemes, he said. Ntuane said even some in opposition who continue to dismiss the BDP policies have enjoyed free education from primary to tertiary level.

He told BDP members the constituency has developed tremendously citing such developments as the tarred road from Gaborone to Gantsi as an example, which has shortened the distance between the two areas.   He added that there are internal roads that have been constructed even in the township.

Still at the launch, the MP for Ramotswa Odirile Motlhale said opposition parties have a tendency of saying if they are voted in power they will open industries, factories and create job opportunities. He said that this is just a campaign strategy to lure people to vote for them and said this is impossible.

He said these are some of the things that take time to realise adding that the ruling BDP came up with policies to alleviate poverty for people from underprivileged families.  Motlhale further said government came up with the Local Procurement Scheme specifically to buy locally produced goods.

He said such an initiative does not help BDP members only but also those in the opposition.  He said that the youth have benefited a lot from the Youth Development Fund as many of them managed to open their small businesses such as bakeries. Other than Swartz, 11 councillors were also launched for Gantsi North at the event.
