The colourful event saw 650 graduates capped with qualifications ranging from the Professional Diploma in Computing to the Masters Degree in Computing.
“It is clear that the need to have access expanded is crucial,” the Lesotho minister said.
“The demand is much higher than available spaces and encouraging Botho University to have a campus in Lesotho will make it easier for students to study in their own country,” the visiting minister said.
Mosothoane said Lesotho had been impressed by the standards of content and infrastructure offered by Botho University.
“I am fully persuaded that the standards you have set in Botswana will be replicated in Lesotho.
“It is our fervent hope that the content of the programmes, the standard of the facilities, the calibre of the teaching staff, and the pre-requisites of the students will not be different from those here so that the quality of the product is not jeopardised or compromised,” the minister said.
In her introductory remarks, Botho University vice chancellor, Sheela Ram said graduation was just the beginning of a long professional life, and that graduates should not expect ready-made solutions.
“You are graduating in Africa and right now all the action is happening right here in Africa, this is where the world economy is growing.
“Don’t just think Botswana, but rather think Africa.
“I want you to see the bigger picture and think outside the box. So venture out, embrace new cultures. Who knows maybe your future is going to be in Rwanda or in South Sudan? Go find it,” she said.
