GU to play in Kabelano Cup

Rollers, Chiefs and Gunners have been part of the event since last year following a contract they entered into with Kabelano Trust. The organisers had promised to include a different team each year, which would compete with the trio.

Last year, they invited Nico United who were knocked out in the semi final by Chiefs. Kabelano Trust chairperson, Terrence Dambe said on Thursday that the prize money has increased by 10 percent.

The winner will walk away with P220,000, while the runners-up get P110,000. The two losers in the semi finals will each get P55, 000. Chiefs are the defending champions after beating Gunners in the final last year.

“In terms of entertainment, we are in the process of finalising contracts with various performers. You can be rest assured that in the not so distant future, we will announce the exciting entertainment line up,” Dambe told journalists at the launch of event.  He said tickets for the event will go on sale from June 19. He encouraged people to buy tickets in advance to avoid a last minute rush.

He said as a way of encouraging people to buy tickets earlier, they have decided that from June 19, the price of tickets will be P150 for the Grand Stand and P100 elsewhere. From July 21 up to the date of the event, tickets will cost P170 Grand Stand and P120 elsewhere.

Barclays Bank Botswana official, Kgotso Bannalotlhe said they are confident their partnership with Kabelano Trust in the tournament will yield results.

He said the bank wants to leave a lasting legacy for the upcoming generation hence their involvement in the tournament. “We are passionate about leaving things in better conditions than we found them,” he said.
