Amputated, frustrated, exploited: the story of Gift Ncube

The Zimbabwean national is supposed to be self sufficient by now thanks to a flood of financial and material support from sympathisers after a Gabz FM radio show early this year. The pledges are yet to be translated into action, as only P34,000 of the P110,000 pledges have been deposited, while the limbs will cost P250,000.

The man who is supposed to be the  beneficiary of financial and material support from sympathetic members of the public alleges he has been a victim of extortion, blackmail and exploitation from a Motswana guardian who volunteered to take care of him only to turn into a demon. The Motswana guardian Nametso Nkarabang denies this.

Ncube, an illegal immigrant, was rejected by Zimbabwe when he was deported to that country early this year after his amputation. He was then temporarily admitted at Nyangagwe Hospital, Francistown and later taken to unemployed Nkarabang’s parents’ house in Mogoditshane after she volunteered to take care of him while he awaits his court case to be concluded.

However, on Saturday Ncube was in tears as he narrated to The Monitor how  his caretaker is now abusing him and milking his Trust Account dry.

Ncube says that after he was taken to Nkarabang’s home in early February by government officials he was  surprised a few days later when she relocated him to a rented house in Tsolamosese which is now being paid from Nube’s Trust Accocunt.

Ncube also alleges that he was paraded by the good Samaritan at the bus rank and around companies as a needy person who needs handouts.Even Zimbabweans were approached to contribute funds for his welfare

He alleges that his two roomed house at Tsolamosese cost P1,400 but has no water.

Ncube is unhappy that Nkarabang is using him to raise money from sympathizers yet she had presented herself as an able humanitarian.

He also narrated that in February a local businessman Fidelity Ncube of Fidelity Print pledged P1,000 a month and found him a lawyer.

However, the caretaker went on Radio and announced how Ncube needs food, prosthetic limbs and a lawyer.

Ncube alleges that this discouraged his sponsor, Fidelity Print who terminated his services.

Ncube also alleges that P11,000 withdrawn by Nkarabang since March has not been fully accounted for.

The distressed Ncube says his attempts to seek his lawyer Uyapo Ndadi’s help to stop Nkarabang from encashing from the Trust Account has failed.

Ncube says he is wondering whether Nkarabang now owns him.

“She threatens me that I will be kicked out of this country because even your president does not want me here. She warned me that if I go to the papers with this matter I would only be making things worse for myself as no one wants me here”

Ncube also alleges that Nkarabang also chased away his girlfriend and mother of his child and replaced her with maids.

“I then demanded her to bring back my girlfriend as she is used to taking care of me and could not stand various people seeing my body,” he said.

Ncube also says that he is in the dark as to when his case will commence. He also does not feel safe as his former employer Keitumetse Khunowu from Radisele is now out on bail. Nkarabang, however, denies  Ncube claims and says that the lawyer   can prove where all the money went.

Lawyer trashes Ncube’s sad story

Ncube’s lawyer Uyapo Ndadi had this to say after The Monitor asked for a reaction.

“All the monies paid to Gift were paid in his presence and with his consent. Before assisting him I require a breakdown of how the money is to be used. I have been strict with assisting Gift because I always remind him and his caretaker of striking the balance between making ends meet today and raising money for the limbs.

The duo have appeared before me on several occasions with differences and I have attempted to reconcile them and the last time they came to see me they all seemed happy. They even brought Gift’s girlfriend”, Ndadi said.

“If Gift feels I’m not protecting his interests, I am more than happy to release all monies raised immediately. My accounting team will be happier because managing Gift’s donations is extra work for them to which they receive no extra pay for.

Ndadi Law Firm is going to spend more in auditing fees for doing this humanitarian gesture because of the increase in transactions. Be that as it may, I cannot vouch for what happens once the money gets into their hands because that is really outside of my mandate and control”, Ndadi said.

On the figures Ndadi law firm states that although more than P100,000 was pledged only P34,100 was deposited into Ndadi Law Firm Trust Account.
