The Makhirikhiri singer gave revellers at Millennium Jazz Restaurant value for their money on Saturday, performing live, his latest hit and many other songs.

It was not a capacity crowd that filled the venue, but Ratshega and his talented instrumentalists were not to be deterred as the spontaneous crowd cheered and danced excitedly.

When the muscular musician first mooted the idea of a live band performance, few would have thought it would quickly turn into such a formidable force.  However, just a few months after its formation the band is already proving an interesting unit.

Ratshega in an attempt to lengthen his performance on the night started slowly with Ke Buile and then his self-introductory song Batswana Dumelang and the crowd was not amused.

Following that up with Mmamokgona Tja Batho, the Makhirikhiri singer had managed to grab the attention of the audience.

But crowd needed something to heat up the cold night.  That spark was provided when the marimba spat the leading melody in the Makhirikhiri song and half of the crowd was on the dance floor.

But the crowning moment would not arrive until after midnight when the band dished out Loso La Monnamogolo.

Upcoming jazz musician Genius Senyatso kept the fires burning with an inspiring performance in which he seemed determined to pay tribute to his late father Duncan through music.

The crowd watched in awe as the young musician did the late jazz maestro’s Re Kile Ra Di Leleka Dikolobe spicing it up with some sesarwa dance moves and Jabu Khanyile’s husky voice and poetry lines in between.
