His agent, Comfort Ramatabele said Santos has requested that the player is sent for assessment before a final decision is made.

“The assessment will last for probably a week. I am hopeful that the player will impress during that period and get a deal,” he said.

Initially, it was reported that Nyumasi will be signed outright without undergoing trial.

Ramatebele met Santos representative and former Zebras’ coach, David Bright who is a keen admirer of the player mid last month to discuss a move to South Africa.  Nyumasi once attended unsuccessful trials at South African Premier League outfit, Mpumalanga Black Aces.

Indications are that Ramatebele has lined up trials for Mochudi Centre Chiefs’ 25-year-old midfielder, Lesego Galenamotlhale and Gaborone United left back, Edwin Olerile at recently promoted South African Premier League, side Chippa United.

“There is a possibility that I will be sending other local players to a South African Premier League club but I cannot say much for now because nothing has been finalised yet. I am yet to talk to their clubs about the proposed trials,” Ramatabele said about Galenamotlhale and Olerile.

Santos chairman, Golam Allie said he was in a meeting when contacted for comment on Nyumasi’s move. He recently told Mmegi Sport that the Botswana Premier League is one of his favourites when it comes to signing players. Current and former internationals like Mogogi Gabanamong,

Diphetogo Selolwane and Boitumelo Mafoko had successful stints at Santos before moving to other clubs. Meanwhile ECCO vice chairman, Mothibedi Latlhang has shot down speculation that the club will change its name to Francistown City Greens. “There is nothing like that.

I even hear talk that BMC has issued a directive that we should change our name because they are no longer funding the club. We are not aware of such a directive,” he said. ECCO was named after one of  BMC’s canned beef products. The club is yet to attract suitors after it lost its sponsorship from BMC.
