Cracks in Culture Spears

Thembi Ramotsetlheng (Ramozara) of the famous borikhirikhi was nowhere to be seen on Saturday as the group made their first ever television appearance since the release of their newest album Kulenche. Also missing was Lydia Oile who replaced Jelina Mokgwatlheng, the group’s composer of their se-kgalagadi songs, who quit in 2010.

Explaining the whereabouts of the two other singers, Kabelo Mogwe, the lead singer who now appears to be the sole owner of the band, along with wife Magdelene, claimed that the two other members were held up somewhere.

For a band which has its own home where the members reside, it would not make any sense how any member would be missing due to work commitments.

After all it is assumed that it is Mogwe himself as the front man who is supposed to manage the schedules of his band members so that the Culture Spears Brand is not embarrassed on national television like it happened on Saturday. Not long ago the Culture Spears stable experienced a break up when their film section saw three of the lead actors, Mantshwabisi twins, and Ramonyaku quitting. Recently Thembeni released his own solo project which does not appear to have been successful. It was not supported by the other Culture Spears lead singers, Mogwe and Magdalene, who did not feature in the project, inviting speculations that Thembeni’s album may not be part of the wider Culture Spears music like Ekentolo.
