The BPL chief executive officer, Bennett Mamelodi said the situation has been made worse by the resignation of finance officer, Thapelo Radifalana.

He informed the assembly that another employee is about to go for maternity leave. “This is where we are experiencing the biggest problems. The secretariat is greatly understaffed,” he said.

He said the board of governors has favourably considered recommendations of creating new posts, funds permitting, to enable the secretariat to deliver better service as the league continues to grow.

He said they need a football manager, a chief accountant, an accountant, a communications manager, a messenger and a cleaner. “The board of governors has also resolved that the time has come for the league to look for its own office space, which will be able to accommodate this growth,” he said.

Mamelodi said they have realised it will be cheaper to buy cars for use by the secretariat for transporting referees rather than hiring. “With your approval, we will go into the market to look for qualified and competent individuals at competitive market rates, to join the league and add genuine value to an already vibrant complement,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Premier League is expected to start in the first week of August.

Mamelodi told delegates at the assembly that the first draft of the 2014-2015 schedule will be available for circulation to clubs in about 10 days. “We have been directed by the BFA to create four weeks in September for the COSAFA Senior Challenge and an Independence Day friendly international match to be hosted by the government. FIFA date will also be accommodated in the schedule,” he explained.

He said negotiations are still on to extend the league sponsorship from be MOBILE.

He said they will make every attempt to secure fair value in the new sponsorship deal that will represent the direction the league wishes to take.

He said they have finalised the structure that will be charged with the responsibility of managing the league sponsorship under the leadership of Kaelo Radira.
