These are the students who took time out of their schedule to help other people who are less privileged.  The event, which was in the form of an awards ceremony, was attended by a sizable number of people who came to support deserving students.

The Event Management lecturer Portia Ngwamotsoko says the awards and honours programme was organised to celebrate and credit final year BA (Hons) Event Management students who dedicated their final projects to serving the community and improving the lives of other Batswana.

“The students had worked very hard and put so much effort towards the completion and success of their projects, so we saw it fit to honour them and give them a night to remember.  This is the first time we have done such an event,” she said.

Ngwamotsoko hailed the students as being on the right track towards being credible leaders of tomorrow. She said the students illustrated compassion and love.

“One of the pillars of Vision 2016 is to be a compassionate, just and caring nation and this was clearly demonstrated in the students’ projects. The families and communities they visited were quite impressed with them, they indeed showed the spirit of putting others first and that is exactly what we teach our students here,” she said.

The best oral presentation award was given to a group of 15 students who donated 189 pairs of school shoes to Monwaneng Primary School in Kweneng district.  The group also managed to scoop the best-executed event award.

The social excellence award was given to another group of 15 students who managed to renovate a home in Mmopane for a less privileged family.  The last awards, the champion, were given to individuals who worked the most and managed to impress more out of all members of the various groups.

As a way to applaud and encourage good work, Member of Parliament (MP) for Gaborone West South Botsalo Ntuane, was at the event.  He not only encouraged the students to continue dedicating their lives to helping others, but also spurred students on to take their education seriously and be the change that the world needs to see.

Other special guests were MP for Tonota North Fidelis Molao and Dr Raphael Dingalo, Limkokwing University Vice President for Academic Management.

The guests were also treated to the sounds of Clement Jackson’s music as they had their dinner.
