Athletics: Botswana strikes gold and silver

Thebe who was at the best of his game battled for the first position with Zambia’s Brian Kasinda as they exchanged the leading position for a number of times during the race.

In the last 20 meters of the race Thebe unleashed his arsenal and overpowered Kasinda taking the first position while the Zambian trailed behind and South Africa’s Kyle Appel came third.

Thebe finished the race in 20.85 seconds.

In the boys 800 meters Gorata Gabanketse took the second position behind Kenya’s Anthony Kipto.

Gabanketse displayed some tactical running as he started his race on a slow pace until the last lap of the race where he overtook all the athletes but Kipto.

Zambia’s Godfrey Chama won the bronze.
