Athletics: Ethiopia running away with gold in long distances

Biratu started his race on a slow pace with South Africa’s Pierre Vermaak leading the pack in the first five laps. However Biratu overpowered Vermaak after 13 laps to lead the pack of athletes.
Biratu managed to maintain his position until the 25th lap finishing the race in 45:30 seconds.
Algeria’s Djaber Bouras took second position to win silver medal and Vermaak was third winning the bronze medal for South Africa.
In the girls 5 km walk race Beza Zegeye won the gold medal for Ethiopia with Tunisia’s Riheb Mansouri scooping the silver medal and Morroco’s Soukaina Bouaoud winning the bronze medal.
Meanwhile Botswana’s Thabisi Sekgopi will be taking part in the boys 200 meters final of the B competition and Last Chidoda will be taking part in the boys final hammer.
