The country had won gold in judo, karate (two), boxing (two) and one in athletics. The team was slow off the blocks with only one gold until boxing struck twice late on Wednesday. On Tuesday the count stood at 16 but that number increased dramatically to 31 last night as the hosts fared well in a competition that ends tomorrow. “It is a good moment,” the team’s chef de mission Tshepo Sitale said in a brief interview with Mmegi Sport last night. Fifty-three countries are taking part in the Games following the late withdrawal of Gambia.
A nation was dancing in euphoria last night as the well attended competition bore fruit. More medals are expected today particularly in volleyball and athletics as the curtain slowly comes down after a festive 10 days.
