The announcement was made by the IASP Executive Board following its assessment of the company’s operations during the 2014 IASP Africa Division Conference that was held at the Gaborone International Convention Centre (GICC) in April this year.

CEO Alan Boshwaen said the full IASP member accreditation bestowed on Botswana Innovation Hub was in recognition of the company’s “fulfilment of all conditions of being operational, including having active innovation programmes such as First Steps Venture Centre (FSVC), Microsoft Innovation Centre (MIC), Clean Tech Centre, Southern Africa Innovation Support (SAiS) programme, making tangible progress in construction of the park and having an active member list comprising of academic institutions, public and private sector partners, small and large businesses and a growing list of anchor tenants that have signed up to locate in the park.”

Boshwaen went on to state that IASP membership confers full IASP accreditation on Botswana Innovation Hub, international visibility, global networking and access to a broad knowledge base with a formidable multiplier of resources and opportunities. He said the IASP credentials grant the company powers to influence policy and the agenda of the global science and technology park association as well as position it to strategically attract foreign direct investment (FDI) flows and contribute more meaningfully to the country’s economic development and competitiveness.

IASP is the worldwide network of science parks and areas of innovation with over 388 members in 71 countries. The association connects professionals managing science, technology and research parks and other areas of innovation and provides services that drive growth and effectiveness for its members. Botswana Innovation Hub has hitherto been an affiliate member of IASP while it worked on its operations, service offering and membership volume.
