Random anti-doping tests at AYG

Reikeletseng told a media briefing in Gaborone that it was imperative that athletes under go such tests.

Most athletes under go testing when they take part in international events outside the continent. Reikeletseng said it was important to test them when they participate at continental level. He could not reveal the number of athletes who were tested and the results.

Meanwhile, Reikeletseng said the Games met international standards. He said in disciplines such as basketball, the standard is at Olympic level. He said competitions in all 17 venues start on time.  BAYGOC chairperson, Regina Sikalesele-Vaka said she was impressed with the progress of the games so far.

She said since the Games commenced, they have not faced major challenges. She admitted that there were some hiccups on Sunday during cycling when roads were closed without informing the public.

Sikalesele-Vaka said yesterday, there was no disruption in cycling as lanes were properly designated.  She commended Team Botswana for the medals it has won particularly weightlifting which is a relatively new code in the country.
