Speaking at the Shashe West constituency BDP Women’s Wing fundraising dinner at Tati River Lodge over the weekend, he said women should be recognised for their contribution in the party.

He said women have been influential in important issues that develop the party.

He called on women to strengthen the campaign for this year’s general elections and help the party to win with higher numbers.

“I call on you as women to go out and talk to people who have registered to vote for the party. From here, work hard and strengthen the campaigns.

I know you have the potential to help the party to win the 2014 general elections. Please do so,” he said.

Kedikilwe said that women have a huge task as mothers, wives and for some, as family heads. “With that responsibility, they have proven to be leaders. We trust them to use that role in helping the party.

“Naturally women are influential and we will support you as the party leadership to use that talent in winning elections for the party.

This is your time to shine and show people that you can,” he said.

Kedikilwe said that he would soon retire from politics after a long service to the party. He hopes that those left behind will carry the baton and build the party. “I have worked hard to bring this party to where it is now. But now I am old and no longer capable to run around like before. Therefore, this is your time to prove to us that you can and hope you would not disappoint,” he said.

Shashe West constituency BDP Women’s Wing secretary, Kebalepile Mpugwa told Mmegi after the event that they will use the money they raised to help the party in its campaigns for the general elections.

She did not disclose the amount they raised at the dinner.

Mpungwa said that they sold a single ticket for P250 and a double ticket for P450. She expressed confidence that they have raised enough money for the campaigns.
