On Friday, the committee met at Tsholetsa House, where a motion of no confidence was passed on the chairperson. Boatile was immediately removed and replaced with Riggert Moroka, the information and publicity officer.

Boatile was not in attendance.

However, Boatile told The Monitor that he was still the NYEC chairperson.

“I have heard rumours that some NYEC members tabled a motion of no confidence against me and chose another person. What they did is just a joke, because I am still the chairperson. They do not have powers to do so,” he said.

He said he was not aware that there was a meeting as only he has the powers to call a meeting.

He said his committee members were acting out of frustration because they think he is the one who influenced the decision of the party central committee to postpone the elective congress.

Boatile said he would call a NYEC meeting this week to address his committee members.

Last Thursday, the BDP central committee announced the postponement of the BDPNYEC elective congress, which was supposed to be held this week. The concerned members allege that Boatile might have connived with the party executive.

The 20th national youth congress was scheduled for May 30 at Masunga Senior Secondary School.

Moroka has confirmed that he has been chosen by NYEC members to be their new chairperson. “I cannot say anything for now until all formal procedures have been followed,” he said.

NYEC has 18 members and only five members were not in attendance, who are believed to be Boatile’s supporters.

BDP executive secretary, Sechele Sechele, said he is not aware that Boatile’s sacking. “NYEC has not yet brought any formal letter to my office that they have replaced Boatile. As far as I am concerned Boatile is still the NYEC chairperson,” he said.

The Monitor has learnt that the aggrieved members are also planning to resin if the party central committee does not support their decision.

The BDP central committee is expected to have a meeting this week.
