The result is expected to lift the Young Zebras’ spirits after losing the first two games against Nigeria and Tanzania. Resaobaka Thatanyane scored an al important equaliser in the dying minutes of the game against South Africa to secure a point for the Young Zebras. South Africa had earlier taken the lead through Simphiwe Zwane.

While South Africa had the possession for most of the time, they failed to utilise it. Botswana had the first real scoring chance of the match in the first 10 minutes of the game. Thatanyane made a brilliant run on the right and managed to outpace his marker but his cross caught his striking partner, Ethan Colliop off guard. South African goalkeeper, Thembinkosi Sindane managed to save the situation for his side.

South Africa continued to dominate possession, but could not find openings in the Young Zebras’ defence led by captain, Thabang Bojosi. Their best chance came towards the end of the first half when their captain, Sandile Ngeobo found himself with only the goalkeeper to beat but he ballooned the ball over the crossbar.

In the second half, Young Zebras goalkeeper, Ryan Brown made mistake when he tried to clear the ball only for the ball to land right in front of South African player, Katlego Mahlaba. However the Young South African forward shot wide. They took the lead moments later through Zwane. However Zebras equalised with just few minutes before the end of the match. Thatanyane capitalised on an error by South African defender, Themba Nomjana. The Young Zebras will now take on Mali tomorrow. South Africa will take on Nigeria this afternoon. In the other match played yesterday, Tanzania hammered Swaziland 3-0.
