Gaborone 2014

Bad AYG start for badminton side

Tshepo Perekisi and Tesah Kabelo failed to press forward after taking the lead in the first set which they lost 21-15.

The second set proved tough due to an ankle injury to Kabelo. The set ended with a 21-10 win for Mauritius. In the other mixed doubles, Nigeria walloped Zambia 2-0.

The injured Kabelo lost 2-0 to Shaama Sandooyea of Mauritius in the girls’ singles. In the boys’ doubles, Tumisang Olekantse partnering with Perekisi lost 2-0 to Julian Paul and Subbraroyan of Mauritius. Egypt won 2-0 against Seychelles with Nigeria beating Zambia.

The last match of the day saw Banewang Tshoganetso and Keorapetse Moatshe losing 2-0 to Mauritius opponents. Botswana is in the same group with Nigeria, Mauritius and Zambia.

Botswana coach, Emmanuel Kebairejang told Mmegi Sport after the game that he was disappointed with the results.

He said the only positive thing yesterday was a win in the boys’ singles. He expected Kabelo to win if she was not injured.

He explained that the player came into the tournament with an injury hence her below par performance. Kebairejang stated that Tshoganetso and Moatshe lacked the killer instinct.

“We are playing Nigeria today (Friday) and it is going to be a difficult game. The only thing that I should do is to motivate my players. They must also avoid mistakes because that is where we are punished,” said Kebairejang.
