Yesterday the BNF spokesperson Moeti Mohwasa said the conference would be held in Boko’s constituency during the July holidays. The BNF will be contesting under the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) during the general elections.

Boko, who is also the UDC president, is expected to battle it out with the Botswana Democratic Party candidate Robert Masitara and Annah Motlhagodi of the Botswana Congress Party.

“The reason why we resolved that the conference should be held in Gaborone Bonnington North is because our president takes time launching parliamentary candidates.  He does not have much time to campaign during the weekend because of the party launches,” he said.

He said they want the party to be visible on the ground especially where their party president will be contesting. Mohwasa stated that even the recent BNF leadership forum that was held at Shoshong had emphasised the need to support the party president.  One of the days during the conference will be dedicated to house-to-house campaigns in Gaborone Bonnington North, Mohwasa said.

Some of the issues that the conference is expected to address are the preparations for the general elections. The conference will also look at how much the party is willing to spend and how the court cases have affected the party. Also on the agenda are indiscipline issues.

“Of late our members in different forums had been complaining that there is indiscipline in the party done by certain members.  We expect members to come up with resolutions that will address some issues that they are complaining about,” he said.

Mohwasa stated that all unresolved issues would be settled during the conference.

So far BNF have two pending court cases; one challenging the use of the BNF symbol in the UDC and one challenging Boko’s ‘fraudulent’ BNF membership.
