The athletics coach told Mmegi Sport that he expects Botswana to use home advantage to excel.

He said the hosts have a good team and it would be risky by the likes of Nigeria to undermine them.  Nigeria, a powerhouse in Africa athletics has brought a formidable squad that boasts of the 2013 African Youth Athletics Championships 400m champion, Edidiong Ofonime and upcoming hurdler, Abudulahi Bashuru.

“I expect the two to do well in the competition.  Bashuru is targeting a gold medal and Ofonime is competing for the last time in this competition and it will only be good for her to walk away with pride,” said Nnakwe.

He said that they have held many camps to prepare the team with many in the squad tasting international action for the first time. He said young athletes are hungry to prove themselves.

Nnakwe said South Africa and Kenya are expected to provide tough competition.

He stated that Kenya is more dangerous in the middle and long distance races. Nigeria has set a target of 10 medals from their 100 athletes.
