Van Der Colff was training at the High Performance Centre (HPC) in Pretoria together with Naomi Ruele, who jetted into the country on Saturday.

Team Botswana moved into the Games Village at the University of Botswana (UB) on Tuesday.

Chef de mission, Tshepo Sitale, said the decision to move into camp before visiting teams arrived was meant to allow local athletes to settle early.

“All the athletes are in camp, the last two we were waiting for were the swimmers from South Africa,” Sitale told Mmegi Sport. Botswana had a team building exercise at Lekidi Centre on Tuesday afternoon to hype the country’s representatives in various sports codes.

Nijel Amos, the 2012 Olympics silver medallist was part of the exercise. It is expected that his historic achievement in the Olympics will spur the team on.

Sitale said that yesterday, the team was focusing on final preparations.

Table tennis starlet, Peo Thebe said the presence of Amos was inspiring and hailed the team managers for the session. Amos, who is based in Potchefstroom, believes there is a lot of talent in Botswana.

He tipped the country to do well at the AYG.   Some of Botswana’s stars to watch at the Games include Galefele Moroko of athletics, Justin Moyo of volleyball, budding football star Brian Makanku and swimming ace, Naomi Ruele.

Young boxer, Keamogetse Kenosi; netball duo of Sarona Hans and Tara Matija; Gavin Mogopa of judo and Bushe Ramabu, a South Africa-based basketball star are other medal hopefuls.
