Kamboo’s latest album A Re Lebogeng, his third since he started recording in 2005, is testimony of the Zionist’s passion for gospel music made popular by giants such as Solly Moholo, Masole A Kgotso, Winnie Mashaba and Oleseng. It is not surprising to find similarities between Oleseng and Kamboo’s music.  He featured the late superstar in his second album Tlogela Lefufa in 2008 and ultimately won a presidential award the following year.  Through the same album he also secured a nomination at the Botswana Musicians Union awards in 2009.

Most ‘Mkhukhu’ singers sound pretty much the same, but with diversity and an ability to add a unique signature to songs will sieves the best from the rest.

Kamboo, picking bible scriptures in his compositions for inspiring tracks, is able to stand out with his ravishing roar, which rafts easily with the lyrical arrangement.

Instrumentally the new album boasts a nugget bass propping on rhythmic keyboard and tenor drums.

Recorded at the home of the Mkhukhu sound, Cool Spot in Pretoria, the album offers viby dance igniting tracks like A Re Lebogeng, Saulo and Kgabo Ya Molelo.

But there are also slow relaxing jams like Jehofa Modimo and Oo Modimo.

The musician explains that his long absence was necessitated by his quest to produce quality music.

“As a musician you should have respect for your followers and work hard towards hooking new ones up and that can only happen if you offer quality.

I was never bothered that people would think I was gone after only two albums.  I took my time to work on this album and I am happy that it represents what I wanted to give my fans,” he told Showbiz.
