“What we have been told is that the two gentlemen involved are being charged. The case is with the police,” he said. He was backed by BPL chief executive officer, Bennett Mamelodi who said the suspects have been grilled by the police.

“The Attorney General has been brought into the picture regarding this issue of tickets because once investigations have been completed, the matter will go to the courts. I can conform that people have been interviewed regarding that issue. The police are handling it,” he said.

Soccer was hit by a scandal last season after claims that some officials have been ripping-off clubs by producing duplicate tickets to be sold on match days.

Mamelodi and Molefe said that despite the challenges, they are happy they finished last season on time.

Mamelodi said that negotiations to renew the be MOBILE sponsorship for the Premier League should conclude quickly so that preparations for the next season can start. “Negotiations are ongoing with the league sponsors (be MOBILE). We need to wrap up quickly so that preparations for next season can start,” he said.

He said the Botswana Football Association (BFA) has already made a request to stage an international friendly during Independence Day celebrations. He said when they draw fixtures for next season, they have to make provisions for the friendly and the COSAFA Senior Challenge Cup to be hosted by Botswana in September.

Meanwhile, Molefe will not be part of the BPL board of governors next season following his team, Uniao Flamengo Santos’ relegation.

Molefe said despite challenges they faced regarding stadiums, they achieved the target of finishing the league by April before the start of Africa Youth Games (AYG). He said they have learnt something from the incident where Premier League champions, Township Rollers were crowned at the dusty Palapye Swallows Ground.

He said they are going to do something about it. The BPL will hold its general assembly on May 31 where the issue of Palapye Swallows Ground is expected to be on the agenda.
