Shumba launches the DVD on May 31 in Gaborone.

“I will have Lizibo and two other local artists perform at the launch. It will be a beautiful launch because I shot the DVD the way people want it,” Shumba told Showbiz.

Lizibo is elated to be part of the launch and believes the fusion of his music and Shumba’s traditional touch will be awesome.

He said he has a lot of admiration for Shumba and singles him out as the one musician who changes the traditional sound time and again.

“Shumba has always re-invented the game of traditional music and his poetry.  It will be a beautiful cultural night fused with modernised music – Afro pop.  It’s a start of a great fusion,” said the award-winning star, Lizibo. The popular song, Leso La Monnamogolo, which was named Best Traditional Song last year, courted a bit of controversy with allegations Shumba stole it.

The song is about a young man who rejoices over an affair with an old woman after the death of her husband.

The two enjoy each other’s company to a point the old woman starts giving the young man money to keep the relationship going.

The assertive artist maintains he is not bothered by the allegations “because concepts can be similar”.

He said he intends to make the launch an unforgettable night for his fans.

Shumba who has ventured into live music, is also recording a live DVD in Gaborone.

Interestingly, the first time he performed live locally was when he launched the eight-track album early this year.

Shumba said he was still waiting for confirmation on engagements in Europe later this year and intends to travel with his band.  He has repeatedly vowed he will not go back to playing backtracks.

The well-travelled musician has previously toured countries like Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Malawi, Mozambique and South Africa where he has won many hearts.
