When his campaign team finally released the more than 15 journalists and other invitees, the Member of Parliament for Gaborone Bonnington North and BDP candidate, was nowhere to be seen.

Branch chairman, Benjamin Gopolang told the puzzled group that the press conference could not go on as scheduled since Maharaja Conference Centre management had told him that they (BDP) failed to book the venue.

Gopolang admitted that indeed they failed to secure the place because they had hoped that BDP head office would do so on their behalf.  “We are very sorry the press conference cannot be held today because we did not pay for the venue.

“Our MP is held up and the press conference will be held on Wednesday and we will ensure that the place is paid on time,” he said.  Gopolang added that there was a communication break down between the party office and the constituency. Masitara, who was conspicuous by his absence, was expected to brief the media and party members about the progress they are making in their constituency.

Mmegi has learnt that Masitara’s councillors and the constituency committee had agreed over the weekend that Masitara should address the media to clear his name.

He was also supposed to talk about the prevailing peace between him and council candidates.  The aspirant councillors were around to show that indeed they had made peace with Masitara.
