Local kwaito star Odirile ‘Vee’ Sento’s wedding caused a social media stir last week before it took place this past Saturday.

With a guest list of 500, his fans country wide expressed their displeasure at the musician’s decision for not making his wedding an open one, but those who were on his side stated that the singer deserves some privacy because his wedding is not one of his shows.

Vee was also celebrating his birthday on his wedding day. Monitor’s Mpho Tlale and Sharon Mathala attended the muso’s wedding that is reported to have been worth half a million.

Although the church service was scheduled to start at 9:00 am in Gaborone West, it started fashionably late on an African time tip at around some minutes towards 1:00 pm.The groom arrived first and waited for sometime before his bride and long time partner Kagiso De- Klerk eventually arrived.

Despite the expectation that the wedding was going to be over the top given the P500,000 tag attached to it, Vee had an ordinary wedding. He arrived clad in a simple white suit best suited for his performances paired with white sneakers.

Amid efforts by his security personnel and ushers to keep him away from fans who had come by the church, the musician took a moment to shake hands with his fans for at least a minute or so.

In an interesting turn of events a close source revealed to The Monitor that the delay in the proceedings was caused by the bride’s dress that had to be adjusted as it did not fit her properly. Furthermore the source revealed that contrary to stating to a local publication that she was going to design her dress with top designers in South Africa, De-Klerk’s dress was designed locally on a last minute basis by designer Natasha Selelo who upon reached for comment said that she could not deny nor confirm the question at hand. Selelo also designed the wedding gown worn by DJ Gouveiya’s wife on their wedding day two weeks ago in Francistown.

In true Kasi style, when the church service began and the people made way into the tent, G-West residents did not want to be left behind.

Because the entry by the door seemed a bit of a hassle, the residents, sneaked into the tent on the sides.

Though the invitation card stated that the photo shoot was to be done at Phakalane Golf Estate, it was done at Gaborone International Convention Centre after it was alleged that P10,000 was demanded from the singer from the Golf Estate management. The card also stated that taking pictures would not be allowed nor children allowed, but that did not stand as pictures were taken and children brought along.

The attendees

As expected the celebrity couples’ wedding attracted over 500 guest contrary to their initial plan. Previously the couple had hinted that on the day they will only entertain a maximum of 500 guests. However, it is worth noting that Ruretse worked wonders for the singer as there were no unpleasant encounters from those not invited.

Notably, the President Ian Khama was one of the attendees. Because of late proceedings the president is said to have arrived with a present only to find that the people were not yet at Ruretse. This came as a surprise as the President had earlier in the week declared that he would not be able to make it to the wedding as he had other engagements. Also present was Minister of Defence Justice and Security, Ramadeluka Seretse. Power couples that were spotted by The Monitor crew are newly wed Mascom’s Chief Communications and Public Relations Officer Tebogo Lebotse-Sebego and hubby Tebogo Sebego as well as Mass Media socialites Thobo and Gaona Tlhasana.

Local musicians who graced the ceremony include  Zeus, Mapetla, Mingo, Eskimos, Kearoma, Kast, Makau, Ashley Gops and Magosi’s other half Runxion.

Entertainment

Entertainment came nothing short of live performances from local groups. Apart from the dazzling moves of the grooms men, Mosako, Kast and Ruxion (amongst others) those present were treated to live perfomances from Machesa traditional group and  South Africa’s Shota who was in the country to shoot a video for the Song I am in Love that he is featured in by Tshepo Rebabedi known as Dj Anthem. Local trio Makau were also in the entertainment mix.

Food and Decor

As is tradition, and the saying goes ‘ there is no Setswana wedding without a big feast’. The guests were treated to a semi traditional fest. On the menu they had traditional samp, seswaa (pounded meat), bogobe jwa lerotse and stew.

The tent which is estimated to accommodate hundreds of people was not over the top and decorated mostly with crystal white cloths with a touch of red. The tables and chairs were also covered in white. The setting was rightly placed allowing each of the guests to have a clear look at the bride and groom.
