Let the games begin

Botswana is proving to be among the best when it comes to hosting major sporting events.

We hope that even this time around we will not disappoint our visitors and those that have bestowed upon us the privilege to host this event. It is not a favour that we were awarded the opportunity to host the event but rather that we have a proven track record that we are capable. Probably other countries also wanted to host.

There has been some noise around the organisation of these games and we are just keeping our fingers crossed that everything will be well on opening day. A lot of effort has been put in to prepare for these games and they should not disappoint. Some companies have dug dip in their pockets to support these games.

Choppies group of companies leads the pack by having contributed over P8m. They deserve a big pat on the back for leading the way because other companies have since come on board to lend a hand in the Games.

It is commendable that the private sector is showing interest in helping out when called upon to do so. Government alone cannot afford to do everything and that is why they always encourage private partnerships. We thank all the companies that have contributed to the success of these Games.

Team Botswana carry the hopes of the over two million Batswana and the expectation is high. Unlike other countries who will not have the advantage to have their fans with them, Team Botswana will have home ground advantge.

We urge Batswana to come out in large numbers to support the team. This will obviously boost their morale. We believe the team is ready to go into the battlefield and only one outcome is expected? A win. We have a lot of confidence in the team and we believe their training and camps have not been in vain. Good luck Team Botswana!
