Saroj Shukla is a firm believer in this concept of spiritual art also referred to as religious art, and has done it for many years mainly to help people overcome various problems.

Her healing art, she says, has done wonders for those who have come across it.

“I have done this for about 30 years, and participated at various exhibitions and even done it on request.  I have sold many of these kinds of works,” Shukla says showing some of her pieces at the members’ exhibition at Thapong.

Shukla’s Indian abstract pieces look like simple wall decorations, but she explains that they have very deep meaning with the power to change one’s life altogether.

She uses different colours and shapes to create the kind of artworks, which have various significances to solve any particular problem, she says.

For instance one of her artworks themed Angel Hearts is composed mainly of small chocolate brown hearts.  This, she explains, “gives you inner peace and joy because of the softness of the colour.  You become content with yourself and your heart is fulfilled”.

The red colour, for instance is used to help people with financial problems and she believes it has the power to encourage someone to rise to the challenge.

Shukla says blue is a good colour for communication, explaining that it helps to keep relationships strong whether it is at a professional or personal level.

The brown colour, Shukla says, can be used to help people with big egos as it makes one feel grounded.

“I promise you these kinds of artworks have some powerful effects on those who look at them. If someone feels above everybody giving him this piece could quickly transform that individual into a down to earth person in a short period,” she says.

Shukla also tells Arts & Culture that doing this kind of art has benefited her spiritually because she shares people’s emotions and problems.

“But most importantly, I like the fact that I use my imagination and creativity to get through their minds, figure out solutions to their problems, which might otherwise create a heavy burden. But this art is not only for those with problems.  I can do pieces that would make one celebrate their success,” she said.
