Destitute encouraged to use anti-poverty programmes

She said that ever since the introduction of the programme, more destitute and the needy have been assisted with some of them running thriving businesses. Hence she encouraged the needy in the area to consider taking advantage of the programme. She was speaking during a donation of blankets and toiletry to the destitute from Breath of Life Ministries in the village.

'This is a good spirit. I thank God that this church was opened in this village, and I hope this is the beginning of our relationship with them. Winter season is approaching and the donation of blankets came at the right time,' she said.

She called on the unemployed to reduce the burden on the government by registering with the poverty eradication programme to empower themselves.

'Do not be dependent on government for almost everything. There are initiatives in place to assist and empower citizens. Do not be reluctant to take advantage of such initiatives,' she appealed.

She said that the government is faced with a shortage of funds to help everyone in need, therefore when initiatives like the poverty eradication programme are still on, citizens should make hay when it still shines.

'In years to come, the government might not have money to support you like now. Empower yourself, open businesses and hire other Batswana,' she said.

Receiving the donation on behalf of his father-in-law, Sarah Mack said that she was overwhelmed by the gesture because they are unemployed and unable to make ends meet.

Thengiwe James received the donation for her bedridden mother-in-law and said they have no jobs and they struggle to provide all the necessities for their mother.

Breath of Life Ministries founder, Pastor Milidzani Sox said that it is one of their mandates to give to the needy as per the Bible. He said they have been donating to individuals, the community and schools in Borolong where their main branch is.
