He said the cyclists have been taking part in different competitions both locally and regionally. Recently they took part in a cycling event in South Africa where Losika Kealotswe finished tops in the junior category. They also participated in races in Mahalapye and Kopong in preparation for the Youth Games, which start on Thursday next week. 'We expect to do well at the Youth Games.

We are currently trying to rectify our mistakes because we have been observing where we are lacking during the past few races we have entered,' Lebalelo said.

He said the feedback they got from professional cyclists during their visit to South Africa was positive.

'We will compete. The cyclists are in good shape. We have been monitoring everything about them including the kind of food they eat,' he explained.

Preparations for the cycling team for the Games started in December last year. Lebalelo said at the time, they invited many cyclists but named the squad in January. 'We had wanted to cover the whole country but we could not reach areas like Francistown because of logistical challenges.

But we managed to reach areas like Mahalapye,' he said. The current team has two cyclists from Mahalapye area. The team has seven boys and five girls.

The boys' team has Kelaotswe, Boago Tlhobogang, Jordan Clint, Sethomo Masepe, Collin Mosarwa, James Masimo and Mmoloki Matilamba.

Atang Malete will act as a reserve for the boys' team. Bakang Modise, Bakang Ebodilwe, Promise Ntshese, Bonno Motletli and Leandra Bowden make up the girls' team for the games.
