Undaunted badminton team ropes in psychologist

The team’s spokesperson, Mbaki Kelailwe said the players are not under-pressure and it is important to allow them to enjoy the game and do well.

“We understand that athletes could be having their own pressure and it is important that they are prepared,” he told Mmegi Sport.

He said the Youth Games is a bigger stage and it is imperative to prepare the players well.  Kelailwe said the team has settled well with most players residing in Gaborone. Beside local training camps, four of the 10-member team were taken to Malaysia. Kelailwe said they could not take the whole team to Malaysia due to financial constraints.  One of the outstanding players in the team is Tessa Kabelo. She reached the quarterfinals of the Botswana Open and made it to the top eight at the All Africa Youth Games (AAYG) in Lobatse last month.  Other players in the girls’ team are: Tshoganetso Banewang, Keorapetse Moatshe, Bontshetse Omphile and Laone Mosekaemang. The boys team has Tumisang Olekantse, Tshepo Perekise, Phemo Leoke, Thuo Paya and Tinashe Olekantse
