Former Diphatsa and Police VI men’s coaches have been roped in to assist, making a formidable technical bench.
Dynamites’ Jestinah Moyo captains the team and brings high level experience to the line-up. Team manager, Meshack Dire said they are confident of winning a medal given their squad and the preparations they have made. “We definitely fall in the medal category, it is just a matter of which colour,” he told Mmegi Sport.
Dire is not shaken that they will face strong teams. He picks out Egypt and Rwanda as two teams to watch. The Botswana team has failed to play international friendly matches due to time limits.
Dire said they had secured friendly matches against Swaziland and Lesotho.
He does not expect his players to have any difficulty in the competition considering that this is not their first national team experience.
The team competed at the Confederation of School Sport Associations of Southern Africa (COSSASA) Games in Namibia last year and won gold. Dire said the only challenge is the break in between camps, which affected the players’ rhythm. Key players in the side are setter, Boitlamo Kobedi, libero Gontle Goirwang and Caroline Rogers.
Other squad members: Neo Keitumele, Yarudi Mbwe, Onneile Tsheole, Tshiamiso Bakhwinya, Kebafilwe Godirwang, Thato Solomon, Baleseng Themba, Unami Mfaso, Khumoyame Mogosha, Titose Kelapile.
